Peony ‘Yellow Crown’ is a plant to savour. It is unusual, rare and highly collectable. It is one of the famous Intersectional Peonies (known as the Itoh Peonies, after the Japanese grower who first developed them in the mid-20th century). They flower for much longer than the normal herbaceous peonies!
Paeonia ‘Yellow Crown’ is a mid-season hybrid, with huge, silky, semi-double ruffled flowers in a beautiful deep golden yellow. They may be as much as 25cm across. There is a hint of red at the bases of the petals. The finely cut, divided bright green foliage, emerges in spring with a reddish tinge, and returns to red in the autumn. The plant naturally develops a sturdy framework, so no staking is required.
Your XXL roots are guaranteed to have +/- 8 eyes, or buds, which is a lot for a yellow peony! These will ensure that your plant will grow into a beautiful perennial. Any fertile, free-draining soil will do, in full sun or part shade. A sheltered position provides best results.
